Sunday marked the finale of the 2017 Newton Abbot Fishing Association Silver Fish League, with Wapperwell and Wheel Pond the selected venues for the second match running. League runner up Gary Webber won the match overall, weighing 6kg 500g of small Skimmers and Roach from Wapperwell, with runner up Mark Newman also drawing Wapperwell, weighing just over 4kg. Wheel pond was won by Jay Jay Durdu – with a weight of 3kg 100g, excluding 13 carp he also landed - who also won the penultimate League match just a fortnight earlier.  Second place on Wheel pond was League winner Sam Powell from peg 13, netting 2kg 650g of small roach on an altogether tough day with a strong and cold easterly ...

Members of Newton Abbot Fishing Association have enjoyed a week of high success with some excellent local catches being recorded. With temperatures dropping and the winter months fast approaching, few would have expected such a result, yet the club’s waters have lived up to their high expectations for many anglers. Rackerhayes, Newton Abbot’s most recognised fishing complex has produced some particularly outstanding bags. Tackle Trader’s Max Palmer enjoyed a wonderful afternoon’s fishing on Wheel Pond, bagging ten Carp for a combined weight of over 70lb fishing in the margins.
