2014 Tackle Trader Winter League - Newton Abbot Fishing Association

Newton Abbot Fishing Association waters have felt the brunt of the weather throughout January, with water levels fluctuating on most venues.  However, there has been a strong turnout for each of the first three rounds of the Tackle Trader Winter League, despite some enforced last minute venue changes.

Round one was fished on Bradley and Wapperwell and with a short window of calmer weather, some excellent catches were recorded.

On Bradley, Mark Cousins drew Peg 19 and had roach from 1oz-1 1/2lb for a superb 7k 600g.  Second was Steve Walker on Peg 15 with a similar net for 5k 200g, and third was Sam Powell on Peg 12 with 4k 340g.  All three anglers using pole tactics with either maggot or caster on the hook.

Over at Wapperwell, top weight went to Gary Webber on Peg 8 who pole fished maggots for roach and some of the recently introduced carp for 6k 240g.  Second was Jamie Pearce on Peg 14 with 4k 100g, and third was Mike Mudge on Peg 15 with 3k 700g.

Round two was again on Bradley and Wapperwell, where the latter produced the top three weights with Steve Walker netting 23 carp on Peg 8, using pole and caster for 11k 040g.

Second was Mark Cousins on Peg 9 with 5k 860g, and third was N.A.F.A. Chairman Ian Powell on Peg 16 with 5g 400g.  At Bradley, first was Jamie Pearce all roach for 4k 910 g on Peg 15.  Second was Gary Webber, again with an all roach catch from Peg 22 with 4k 700g, and third was John Dore on Peg 12 with 2k 120g.

Round three was scheduled for Key and Bradley, but with some horrendous weather in the previous week, it was decided to put all anglers on Bradley.  Winner on the day was Mark Cousins on Peg 11 with roach and perch on pole and maggot for 4k 300g.  Second was Gary Webber on Peg 8 with all roach for 3k 650g, and third was Sam Powell on Peg 4 with 2k 560g

With no end in sight to the bad weather, members are advised to contact Tackle Trader for any venue changes.
